Portfolio Update – 5th March 2023

Another month, another portfolio update!

Things have been relatively stable since my last update, as the market seems to be trading sideways. Considering the incredibly uncertain backdrop, I’m not complaining at all. I did decide to buy a few shares, so check those out below if interested.

As always: I do not encourage anyone to copy my investing strategy. This is not financial advice and is for entertainment purposes only.

Main Portfolio: S&S ISA, LISA, Private Equity, Crypto

Portfolio Breakdown & Illustration

As it currently stands, the portfolio consists of Stocks (86.26%), Private Shares (5.20%), Cash (4.48%) and Crypto (3.70%).

The weightings haven’t changed too much since last month. As I said above, the market rallied, fell slightly, and has been trading sideways ever since. This month’s inflation reports are likely going to upset that stability, as will any further escalation in Ukraine or with China, which may increase fears of further supply chain issues. But, for now, things are calm.

My intention going forward for this portfolio is to de-risk somewhat. If and when we see a rally in riskier stocks like Robinhood, Coinbase and Matterport, I intend to reduce my positions by about half, in favour of companies I have the highest conviction in. I’m also aiming to add a few more dividend-paying companies.

Here’s a look at my main portfolio as of 6pm on Sunday 5th March:

Portfolio Changes Since Previous Update

Here’s a breakdown of any purchases or sales of shares, with my reasoning for doing so.

  • BUY: 6 shares of Alphabet, increasing my position to 12 shares total.
    • REASON: I’ve been wanting to buy more shares of Google/Alphabet for a good while now. It fell nicely to ~$90, so I decided to jump on it (I missed out last time the share price went this low).
  • BUY: 55 shares of Hargreaves Lansdown, increasing my position to 55 shares total
    • REASON: Not one I expected to buy, to be honest. However, after reading their earnings report, I couldn’t resist. I’d argue it’s trading at or below fair value, with a 4.85% dividend. That’s pretty solid. I should note, though, that there is a risk here. If the economy continues to suffer, and people continue to shun trading and investing, then HL’s inflows and revenues could continue to decline. This investment is in the hopes that trading revenue will return towards the end of this year while interest rates are still high; both very positive impacts on HL’s revenue.
  • BUY: 40 shares of Palantir, increasing my position to 80 shares total.
    • REASON: A bit of a controversial investment, but I really like Palantir, and they are showing no signs of slowing growth. Their data analysis platform has proven incredibly effective in the Ukraine war, in the UK’s Ministry of Defence, as well as the NHS.

Secondary Portfolio: SIPP

Portfolio Breakdown & Illustration

Minimal movement on this portfolio, with no purchases or sales of shares or funds. The Restaurant Group seems to be having a bit of a run, currently sat at around ~40p (purchased at ~37p). Only time will tell what happens there; whether or not it continues to rally.

Here’s a look at my SIPP portfolio as of 6pm on Sunday 5th March:

SIPP Portfolio Changes Since Previous Update

No purchases or sales since my last update.

If we see a reasonable drawback in UK stock prices over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be keen to add to the portfolio. For now, though, I’ll be holding onto that ~37% cash.

Let’s Discuss

That’s everything from me. I’d love to hear your thoughts as well:

  • What are your thoughts on my portfolio? How does yours compare?
  • What’s your favourite stock or fund to invest in?
  • What are your feelings towards the UK/US economy over the coming months/years?

Let me know in the comments! [/memberonly]
